This is a photo of me protesting against the Ottawa Sun. They have a double standard when it comes to editing photos. They will blatantly display men topless, but even in an article celebrating the anniversary of women in Ontario gaining the RIGHT to bare their chests in public, they censor women's nipples every time. I find their stance incredibly offensive so I made a sign and hopped a bus to tell them so. I protested for three hours all by myself up and down the bridge in front of the Ottawa Sun. Really it made no difference. The law says one thing, but prudish, religiously based values have the populous brainwashed to believe the female body is sinful and obscene. While it may not have a measurable effect, I'll keep fighting for what I believe. They can't shut me up!
Some jerk took to harassing me during my protest. "You're gonna get arrested!" he kept yelling. Then he called the cops. He booked it when they arrived but they were really cool; their only concern was my proximity to the bridge and the intersection, that I might hold up traffic. I politely assuaged their fears, then they wished me luck and took off to fight real crime.
I would like to state for the record that the officers (there were two on the scene but only one is shown in the photo) who responded to the 911-call were incredibly professional and respectful. Contrary to what the photo suggests, they maintained eye contact with me the whole time. Of course they saw (they have eyes) but they never stared. The Ottawa Sun's photographers were constantly taking photographs during my protest and for this shot they chose to print what must have been the only such photo of a split-second glance. I feel terrible that this officer has been slandered for doing nothing more than his job. Know this, even unaltered photos lie.
The rest of my protest went off without a hitch ... except for the fact that on the way to the Sun that morning I had a fall and badly bruised my tail-bone. I was in immense pain the whole time I was out there, but it was totally worth it!

it was really nice for the police to wish you luck, I had to smile when I read that speaking of smiles I viewed your TV interview, you were so very pleasant to listen to, you were NOT arrogant or boring about the subject ++
i agree!! people think that women are the reason sin happened in the world and so of course! when we show something that, in all honesty, is for nourishing a baby. it is thought of as pornographic???? WTF?? i mean a vagina, yes i can understand, but the breasts? who the fuck cares!!! its a fucking nipple on a bump of flesh!!!! we all have it in some form or another! even men! its like people think seeing it will burn your eyes out of your head or something! Good LORD!
It makes me angry people can't see the human body is natural weather your a man or woman. everyone is so ignorant these days.. but omg that's so awesome <3
